East Jordan Celebrates Groundbreaking

Congratulations to the City of East Jordan, who recently broke ground on the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant. The $5.7M project was designed by Gosling Czubak Engineering Sciences, Inc. of Traverse City. The new plant, capable of handling 239,000 gallons per day, will utilize screening and grit removal, oxidation ditches, and clarification before discharging treated water to sand beds. The system will operate continuously year-round with a new plant control system equipped with alarm notifications.

This project will also upgrade four existing pumps stations identified as “fair” to “poor” condition. Improvements will include replacement of aging pumps with new, and a completely new pump station at Tourist Park.

Preliminary site work will begin on August 14, and the improvements are expected to be complete and operational by August 25, 2018. Construction will be completed by contractors Grand Traverse Construction, Shoreline Power, Northwest Michigan Contracting, Franklin Holwerda Company, Bay Masonry, and West Michigan Instrumentation.

This project is being funded in part by a $3.4 M grant from USDA Rural Development.
