Public Highway Cleanup Program
According to the MDEQ, the Michigan Underground Storage Tank Authority (MUSTA) is now accepting claims for reimbursement to county road commissions for the costs of corrective action to manage, relocate, or dispose of any media contaminated by refined petroleum products left in place within a public highway.
The requirements for eligibility are contained in Section 21506a(4)(f) of Part 215, Underground Storage Tank Corrective Action Funding of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended (Act 451).
What are Eligible Expenses?
Reimbursement of eligible expenses is allowed up to $200,000 per claim. Some examples of eligible expenses include:
- Backfill transport, placement and compaction
- Liquid recovery and disposal
- Purchase of treatment system
- Decommissioning of treatment system
- Water supply well abandonment
- Drilling services
