Survey Technician

Gosling Czubak Engineering Sciences, Inc., northwestern Michigan's leading multi-disciplinary consulting firm, provides services in civil engineering, surveying, environmental, geotechnical and landscape architecture services. Gosling Czubak delivers innovative solutions to municipalities and private clients throughout Michigan and has an opening for a Survey Technician.

The Technician will be a member of a two-person crew or occasionally be the sole member of a one-person survey unit. A survey technician will be responsible for running survey equipment and efficiently performing field tasks as directed by the survey crew chief on a variety of survey projects. 


Your Responsibilities

  • Interact and work with survey staff

  • Efficiently operate technical survey equipment and surveying-related software

  • Perform simple survey calculations necessary for field work on a limited basis

  • Interaction with clients and the public on a limited basis

  • Maintain clean survey truck in good working order

  • Ensure essential equipment and stakes needed for daily activities are in order


Required Skills and Experience

  • Previous survey experience preferred, but not required

  • High school diploma

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Consistency in exercising discretion and judgment in all work tasks

  • Ability to follow instructions and complete work assignments efficiently

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Basic knowledge of surveying equipment, including Leica products

  • Basic knowledge of personal computers

  • Experience or aptitude to perform varying tasks related to surveying projects

  • Basic knowledge of surveying principles

  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment

  • Enjoy and thrive in an outdoor work environment year round

  • U.S. Employment authorization required


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to walk on uneven, slippery, muddy or snow covered ground

  • Must be able to bend, lift and carry up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to effectively use shovel, hammer and machete

Compensation and Benefits

  • This is a full-time position with possible seasonal layoffs
