We’re Honored!
At the 2025 Builders Exchange of Northwest Michigan Awards of Excellence in Construction Ceremony, we were thrilled to receive the Architecture, Engineering, and Design Award for the North Country Trail / Iron Belle Trail Connector Project with the Village of Kalkaska DDA.
This long-envisioned project brought to life a new trailhead and re-routing of the North Country Trail / Iron Belle Trail—providing full non-motorized access across the stunning Boardman River lowlands. The new boardwalk and trail system not only enhanced the outdoor experience but also introduced ADA accessibility to the scenic river corridor for the first time.
The project strengthens Kalkaska’s role as a proud North Country Trail Town, improving trail connectivity, safety, and access between the natural landscape and the downtown US-131 business district.
Key highlights:
- 1.4 miles of new, non-motorized wooded trail along the Boardman River
- Replacement of 2.2 miles of on-road/shoulder trail—reducing vehicle and pedestrian conflicts
- A new trailhead with parking and connections to existing US-131 non-motorized paths
- Enhanced access and interaction with Kalkaska’s beautiful natural resources
We’re grateful to our partners, community members, and the dedicated teams who helped make this vision a reality—creating a lasting connection between nature, accessibility, and community.
