To minimize the release of stormwater to the Elk River and East Grand Traverse Bay, the Village of Elk Rapids constructed a rain garden to treat stormwater runoff from improved streets. The rain garden uses plants and grasses to filter sediment, nutrients and other material that could harm the water quality of the River and the Bay. In addition to the rain garden, a stormwater concentrator was installed on an existing 21" storm sewer.
